BACK HOME IN LOUISIANA
WORDS & MUSIC: Earl P. Reinhalter
I. back home in Louisiana,
where the sun shines ev'ryday,
it might be cloudy and raining,
but my friends make bright the way.
standing out on the veranda,
I can hear a Cajun say:
"break out the beer!
celebrate that we're here
and not some other place!"
II. people in Louisiana
never read too many books.
if you should say "Solzhenitsyn,"
you would get some funny looks.
but that doesn't mean they are stupid
or that their brains have no contents;
for they farm the field,
and they get quite a yield
in crops of common sense.
III. if I should not live forever,
tell the undertaker guy:
go find a cropdusting biplane,
take my ashes to the sky.
free me to dance in the sunlight
like a million butterflies.
Shreveport to New Orleans,
and ev'ry place in-between,
that's where my soul will lie.
ENDING: standing out on the veranda,
I can hear the good lord say:
"break out the beer!
celebrate that thou art here
and not some other place!"
break out the beer!
celebrate that we're here
and not some other place!
chez moi, ma louisiane!
