THE TWO-STEP WALTZ
WORDS & MUSIC: Earl P. Reinhalter
I. the stadium in Cashville
sits upon a landfill.
the left-field grass,
it sways in the air.
nobody ever
plays over there.
II. the cheerleaders in Cashville
dance upon an anthill.
but in the dark,
when wallets are still,
they all start
their strange quadrille...
CHORUS: doing the two-step waltz,
doing the two-step waltz.
if you can hold onto
one-two-three, one-two,
you'll do the two-step waltz.
III. each batter makes a single,
and fatter pockets jingle.
they never hit anything
over your head.
Cashville plays it
safe instead.
IV. six umpires run the show.
players come and go.
some of them
will imitate
movements they
did not create...
CHORUS: doing the two-step waltz,
doing the two-step waltz.
if you can hold onto
one-two-three, one-two,
you'll do the two-step waltz.
V. twelve locks, no escape-o.
send trucks full of capos.
"1 - 4 - 5"
the plates all read.
one key
is all you need.
END CHORUS: waltzing a two-step,
dancing a new step,
from the beginning
to the ninth inning
I'm doing the two-step waltz.
from the beginning
to the ninth inning
I'm doing the two-step waltz.
