STAKEOUT ON DOPE STREET - photo #1

These steps in Stakeout on Dope Street lead down the hill to Hope Street alongside the Alta Vista Hotel at 255 S. Bunker Hill Avenue. These same steps were used near the beginning of Joseph Losey's M (1951). The Alta Vista was the home of John Fante when he lived on Bunker Hill in the early 1930s. He renamed it the Alta Loma in his 1939 novel, Ask the Dust.
