RHINO REVELS IN STREET-CORNER HARMONY WITH DOO WOP III;
NEW BOX FEATURES 102 MORE DOO WOP HITS, NEAR MISSES,
CELEBRITY PICKS, AND MODERN DOO-WOP

Second PBS Doo Wop Special To Air During December Pledge Drive

LOS ANGELES -- When Rhino released "The Doo Wop Box: 101 Vocal Group Gems From The Golden Age of Rock 'N' Roll" way back in 1994, no one knew what to expect. But the reviews came in, the music lovers went wild, and "The Doo Wop Box" not only became Rhino's best-selling box set to date, but became certified gold! Not ones to turn deaf ears to opportunity pounding on the door, Rhino then released a second doo wop box, "The Doo Wop Box II: 101 More Vocal Group Gems From The Golden Age of Rock 'N' Roll," which picked up where the first set left off. The reaction was the same. People just couldn't get enough of this stuff.

Now Rhino proudly announces the arrival of DOO WOP BOX III: 102 MORE VOCAL GROUP GEMS ($69.98 at all music retail outlets as well as online at www.rhino.com). But we figured we had to do something special, something unique this time around, and we did! Yes, you'll still get 102 more tracks of pitch-perfect street-corner harmony, but we took a slightly different approach on this one.

The four-volume box set, due in stores August 1, not only features more classic doo-wop hits, but also should-have-been hits (tracks that didn't quite make the charts for one reason or another), doo wop favorites chosen by celebrities who grew up listening to the music (Keith Richards, Robert Plant, Dave & Phil Alvin, George Carlin, Dion, Art & Aaron Neville, Frank Zappa and Quincy Jones, to name but a few) and a collection of modern doo-wop recordings by some of today's most popular artists (Linda Ronstadt, The Beach Boys, Paul Simon, Boyz II Men, The Bobs, The Stray Cats, The Nylons and more). Different enough for you?

But there's more. With the success of last year's "Doo-Wop 50 PBS Special," Rhino and PBS will once again join forces to produce a second doo-wop special, "Doo Wop @ 51." The first special aired during PBS's 1999 December pledge drive, helping it to become the most profitable pledge drive in PBS history. Taped this past May in Pittsburgh, the new show will feature such doo-wop stalwarts as The Tokens, The Five Keys, The Dells and The Chiffons, and will be broadcast during this year's December pledge drive.
