A CHILD'S IDEA OF A MAN
WORDS & MUSIC: Earl P. Reinhalter
I. look up to daddy,
look up to pa.
I thought somebody was a man
if he was tall.
so I wanted ev'rybody to look up
and see how tall I am.
I didn't know I was living
a child's idea of a man.
II. listen to uncle:
he speaks so loud.
he's only talkin',
but to my tiny ears it's a shout.
so I wanted ev'rybody to listen
to hear how loud I am.
I didn't know I was living
a child's idea of a man.
BRIDGE: now a child's idea of a man
is something I picked up way back when.
I shoulda left it
with my bucket and shovel
lying in the sand.
but now I'm growing ev'ryday,
I've learned to throw it all away.
I've fin'ly stopped living
a child's idea of a man.
(repeat verse I)
III. my body is achin';
a whippin' I had.
I get a spankin'
ev'ry time that I make daddy mad.
so I wanted ev'rybody to feel
the strength within my hands.
and once again I was living
a child's idea of a man.
