FOREST
WORDS & MUSIC: Earl P. Reinhalter
I. I saw a forest
from far off afar,
so sweet and green
like a Cuban cigar.
but nearer and nearer,
the trees called my name:
"we really are diff'rent,
we just look the same."
II. I saw human beings,
or so I would try.
but they kept throwing
motes in my eye.
class and age, sex and race
I would forget.
but someone reminds me:
"we're not equal yet."
III. the man on the street
and the man in the moon
and the girl in the shadow
says, "I'm diff'rent, too."
but I see a forest
with Eden below.
the trees are all diff'rent,
but look where they grow.
