GODS ON THE LOOSE
WORDS & MUSIC: Earl P. Reinhalter
I. I see fire-breathing gods,
enslaving gods,
forgiving gods
and saving gods
and ones who don't appear.
I see pillars of salt
where three or more live in fear.
CHORUS A: of all the gods on the loose,
which one do you choose?
is he a blessing or a curse?
did he make you
or just the reverse?
II. I saw by chance
a hill of gloves.
a pile of hands
is what it was.
fingers point at the sky
where surgeons trade
the other cheek
for an eye for an eye,
and amputees
learn the sound
of one hand praying.
/// REPEAT CHORUS A ///
III. I'd go to court
and sue the gods
if I could afford
an honest judge.
but all the gods will say
that they were victimized
on the ninth day.
but if god's everywhere,
he's in jail anyway.
/// REPEAT CHORUS A ///
CHORUS B: of all the gods on the loose,
which one do you choose?
soon it will all be clearer
just who is the maker
and who is the mirror.
