IN THE FACE OF LOVE

WORDS & MUSIC:   Earl P. Reinhalter

          I. now if our leaders declared war,
              we'd have to shoot each other on sight.
              I stand against all you stand for,
              but my body lies against yours tonight.
              my friends all say that you're a spy,
              and I'm sure your friends say that so am I.
              but in the face of love,
              all nations disappear.

         II. you have a son as old as me.
              your hair is not as dark as before.
              you've seen 'most all there is to see.
              but you're patient with this young amateur.
              and you ignore my clumsy ways.
              and I never see the lines in your face.
              'cause through the eyes of love,
              all time just disappears.

        III. now if my face resembled yours,
              with not a whisker here on my chin;
              if my shape could fill the clothes you wear,
              with the same places fat and thin;
              we wouldn't care what people said.
              we'd still be here in the same bed.
              'cause through the eyes of love,
              the soul alone appears.
