SMILING AT ME
WORDS & MUSIC: Earl P. Reinhalter
I. it's the other side of another mountain.
I found the passage again.
it's hard, it's hard to go so fast
when life, when life is so compressed.
but maybe, maybe when mountains are past
and these are plains at last.
II. the fork in the road is full of old signs.
bullet hole words are covered with vines.
I follow the road that leads to my girl.
hope it won't lead to the end of the world.
beneath the noon sun, my eyelids close.
the rest of me falls like dominos.
III. in the distance I see the sun rise
on the shoreline, on the shoreline,
using sticks of light to prod the grey mist.
colors spill all over the sky.
I'm not so sure the sun I see
is not my lover smiling at me.
BRIDGE A: smiling at me. (10 times)
IV. look at her face, look in her eyes.
(short verse) a stranger I feel I recognize.
she feels the same way, seems obvious.
I ask her her name. "your future," she says.
BRIDGE B: smiling at me. (6 times)
she was smiling at me.
it seemed like she was smiling at me.
