October 1, 1943

Hello Ma:
Just a short note to let you know that I have arrived at school. Classes begin on October 3rd. The course is going to be tough and rough and if I don't get through, don't be surprised. It is said that about 60% of one class last term failed. If it is not too late, buy me a new wrist watch. I just broke mine and don't have time to take it to town and have it fixed. Well, this is all that I have time to write just now, the lights are going out in a minute or so. More later -
Earl
