Letter of Commendation
May 11, 1945

      Here is General Ennis Whitehead's Letter of Commendation which was mentioned in the Squadron Pulse newsletter (May 20, 1945, issue). This letter was among documents provided by the Air Force Historical Research Agency. Below is a scan of each page, followed by a typed transcription of the text. The commendation was for the 7th Air Service Group, which included the 3rd Airdrome Squadron, as noted on page two. The "201 files" mentioned in the letter refer to a soldier's Official Military Personnel File (OMPF).

            1.   I desire to commend the officers and men of the 7th Air Service Group for their ingenuity, bravery and courage in the recent defense operations in the Floridablanca Area.

            2.   Although your primary training and mission is not direct ground combat with the enemy, officers and men demonstrated unquestioned qualities of leadership and fighting spirit that will result in the utter extermination of the Japanese.
