PARKERSBURG, WEST VIRGINIA:   A VINTAGE PORTRAIT

PARKERSBURG BRANCH, WVU

Looking down, westward, on the Parkersburg Community College, a branch of West Virginia University, in 1966, five years after it opened. The college was located on Emerson Avenue at 31st Street in the former Emerson Elementary School near the center of the photo. (31st Street runs straight up the center of the photo.) The silver building next to the school building was a Quonset hut. After the Parkersburg Community College moved to its new Cedar Grove campus in 1969, the old building was torn down and replaced by the new Parkersburg Library. (Photo by Harry Barnett)
