is on the right. The photo shows that the blocks east of Market and south of Fourth Street were busy with commerce and manufacturing.
In 1934, West Virginia State Police use tear gas to disperse striking workers at the
Baldwin-Ames-Wyoming shovel plant on Route 47 outside Parkersburg. Employees
demanded a raise in wages and better working conditions.
