Why "Electric Earl"? | _![]() |
In 1968, blues musician Muddy Waters recorded an album with a rock band, and the record company called the album Electric Mud. While living in Baton Rouge in 1983, I put an electric pickup on my folk guitar so I could open for New Wave bands, and I put "Introducing Electric Earl..." along with my full name on posters for the show. And, simply by accident, a few people (including local musician Harry Dog) started calling me Electric Earl. That seemed like a good stage name, so I've billed myself that way ever since.
Oddly enough, I have never heard the Electric Mud album. I just remember seeing it in stores and reading the reviews.
If you 'd like to learn more about Electric Mud, there's an interesting Wikipedia article about the album.
