According to the notation on the rear of the photo print, this is a nurse at Saidor, a village in New Guinea.
He also describes her in his 9/11/1945 letter as "a nurse that I knew while stationed at Saidor, New Guinea."
According to his 9/10/1945 letter, he was stationed in Saidor in 1944. So the photo album caption is incorrect.
She appears to be holding a kitten.
